The Queensland Government says no decision has been made on the choice between light rail and buses for the Gold Coast's proposed rapid transit system.
Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Phil Reeves, has officially launched the public consultation process for the initiative.
Minister Paul Lucas has indicated light rail would be a more expensive option, but Mr Reeves says no decision has been made.
"Until we get agreement on the proposed route of the rapid transport project only then can we actually do the costings on whether it's light rail or bus rapid," he said.
"We're open about this, we want people to have their say whether they want a bus rapid transport which will use high volume, low floor, airconditioned buses, or a light rail transit system."
