ARHS Quilpie 9-day Steam Safari Print E-mail
Written by Dean Stalker
Tuesday, 17 April 2007
" The far western Quilpie branch line usually sees freight and stock trains only. It has been 12 years since we visited the area by steam train. Join us for a nine day safari to this unique outback township. What a great way to see the rich wheat, cotton, wool and beef producing areas of Southern and Far Western Queensland as you travel in the wooden heritage carriages hauled by steam locomotive AC 16 class221A —the first time for this class of locomotive. This tour features daylight travel only with overnight stops at Dalby, Roma, Charleville and Quilpie. A free day has also been included in Charleville for you to either rest up or perhaps visit the failed experimental Vortex Rainmaking Gun or the Bilby Farm. A visit to the Cosmos Centre where you can experience the magical night sky and a “Starry Starry Night” is recommended." -- courtesy of the ARHS-Qld Tour Brochure

Quite a number of QRIGgers followed or rode this trip over the 9 days it ran ...

Many photos can now be seen on the QRIG Gallery

They can also be seen at the Youtube QRIG Group
