Howdy, Very wet night. Anyone know if any lines are affected. The IPS had some problems last evening, not sure if resolved? Haven't heard anything run through

Derailment near Blaxland Print E-mail
Written by Graham Richer

A QRNational Coal Train has derailed at Blaxland earlier this evening. The locomotives involved were 2305 & 2306, however were not directly affected. One wagon is down an embankment mid-train, whilst the rear of the train is OK.

Thanks to Graham R on the scene for this info.

An up empty coal train bound for Macalister CLF derailed at Blaxland sometime late yesterday afternoon. I was out there at around 2020hrs and found locos 2305 + 2306 and a wagon or two intact on the track. The rear of the train was also intact. In the dark I could see one wagon on an angle down the embankment on the southern side of the line.

Ventured out there again early this morning to find a total of 18 wagons in the dirt, 16 of them on the northern side of the line. Track appeared to be fine. A QR worker on site said trains were running again. The cause was "unknown".

Of note is that prior to my learning about the derailment the area experienced a wild storm. Several homes and sheds close to the site experienced severe damage from the strong winds. Is it possible that the empty wagons were blown from the tracks?
