When you use the login box on the left to login, it accepts the username and password and then goes straight to another login screen and asks for the username and password again.

This is normal behaviour, as the first login screen logs you into the QRIG website, while the second one logs you into the Forums automatically. This prevents the need to register an account twice for both the website and the forum software.
